1. Tipping the Papasan:

Standard Procedure: It's not uncommon for the papasan (or manager) to expect a tip, especially if you’ve had a chat or asked for specific services or girls. While it’s not always mandatory, tipping is appreciated.

Appropriate Amount: For a standard soapy massage, a tip of 100 to 300 baht is typical. Since you gave 300 baht, you were within a reasonable range. If you’re unsure, a tip around 10-15% of the total cost of the service is a good starting point.

2. Drinks During the Session:

Normal Practice: Offering drinks is a common practice in soapy massage establishments. It’s often part of the service experience, and the cost of drinks might be added to your bill.

Refusing Drinks: You can refuse drinks if you prefer not to have them, but make sure to do so politely. You could say something like, “I’m fine for now, thank you.” In many places, it’s acceptable to decline additional services if you don’t want them.

3. Price and Additional Costs:

Transparency: Ensure you understand all the costs involved before you agree to services. This includes asking about any extra charges for drinks or tips. Some places might have a fixed price that includes all, while others might add extras.

Avoiding Overcharges: If you feel like you’re being ambushed or overcharged, it’s okay to ask for clarification. Politely inquire about any additional fees before agreeing to them.

Summary of Your Experience:

Papasan Tip: Your tip of 300 baht was generous and should cover expectations. If the papasan seemed unhappy, it might have been due to miscommunication or a misunderstanding.

Drink Costs: Drinks are often expected, but you can refuse them if you prefer. Make sure you’re clear on whether drinks are included in the initial price or if they are an extra charge.

Overall, it sounds like you had a good experience with the soapy massage itself, which is the most important aspect. Just keep these tips in mind for future visits to make sure you’re comfortable with the process and avoid any confusion.

Handling Drink and Tip Requests in Massage Parlors

When it comes to ordering drinks at massage parlors, the prices are typically in line with what you'd expect at other local establishments. Generally, they are quite reasonable and comparable to standard rates.

One thing to note is the procedure for accessing the rooms. I always prefer to head to the room first, ensuring that I am settled and comfortable before any additional requests or charges come into play. This approach allows me to focus on the experience without distractions.

Regarding tipping, I've consistently avoided giving extra payments to any intermediaries, such as pimps or other facilitators, who might request additional tips. Instead, I prefer to handle all transactions directly with the staff providing the service. This way, I can be sure that the tips are going directly to those who actually perform the services, and I maintain a clear understanding of all charges involved.

By following this approach, I ensure that my experiences remain straightforward and enjoyable, without any unnecessary complications or misunderstandings about payments and tips.

Indeed, it’s quite common in many venues for the waiter to approach only after you’ve selected your preferred lady. This practice makes sense from a business perspective, as it allows the establishment to streamline their service and potentially increase sales. By waiting until a choice has been made, the venue can efficiently handle drink orders and ensure that each customer is served promptly. It also maximizes their opportunity to sell multiple drinks at once, as patrons are likely to buy drinks for both themselves and their chosen companion. This approach benefits the venue by enhancing their revenue while ensuring that the process remains smooth and enjoyable for guests. It’s a practical method that aligns with the operational goals of many bars and clubs, helping to create a more efficient and customer-focused experience.

My opinion on this

@StefanF the tip for the papasan is completely unnecessary.
And if so, then 300 is of course much.

If everyone gave him 300, you can work out his salary.
Several hundred customers go through him every day.

What's the money for for recommending someone to you?
You can be sure that at a moment when you don't know it, he'll get a tip from the girl he recommended to you.

If you want to give a tip, then of course it'll be to the girl you've chosen.
If you make it clear to her beforehand that you'll get a 300 tip for a very good performance, she'll go all out.
The 300 is much, much better invested that way, believe me.
(It doesn't have to be 300 though.)

And then on to the drinks.
Of course everyone has to decide whether they're thirsty or not.
It's not exactly usual to order a drink.
Of course they try to make a bit of extra money.
Next time, ask the girl you've chosen if she'd rather have a tip OR a drink.
There aren't many thirsty people anymore.

In my opinion, the time to order a drink is right when you go in.
You can drink comfortably while you decide and if the drink isn't empty, you can of course take it back to your room.

I always feel like that when I'm in the room, I don't have "time" to drink anyway.
And neither does the girl.

The Papasan is there to recommend girls to you!

He doesn't get a tip, what for? As the previous poster has already said, at most the girl, if she has done her job well. I was given a drink when I met the girl at the table before going to the room. You can also swap girls then, by the way. Because when you get close, the pretty ones don't usually look so pretty.

It's become common practice these days for everyone and everything to want a tip for something. The last time I went out to the car wash, some waitress came up to me and asked for a tip. Huh, for what, did I ask her??? There's nothing for nothing. But they all try. :bigsmile
