It's a real issue of genuine concern, and (while I sympathize with your predicament) I'm pleased that you brought this up.
Need more info. Is she a working girl? (Presuming that she is, seeing as you've posted this on here.) Street freelancer, or works out of/in a beer bar/go-go? That matters.
Case by case, but how clingy/savvy she is (specifically, whether or not she’ll be aware of your presence in Bangkok even if you’ve not told her you’re coming) will depend on her work situation, years in the saddle, how regular/close/honest your contact with her (phone/email/social media) is while you're outside Thailand, and her ‘network’ of P4P gal-pals, or lack of such. You'd be surprised just how much 'knowledge' they have and how much more they appear to be able to obtain behind your back. (I was, and still am: see below.)
If you're trying to avoid a bird in Bangkok, bottom line is, be pessimistic: better safe than sorry. If she works, for example, out of Nana/Soi 4, restrict your mongering to other areas — Cowboy (though that's too close for comfort) or Patpong — and stay in a hotel well away from Lower Sukhumvit etc. Or, as Koko has suggested above, just go to Pattaya: you could probably relax there — though, if she’s a seasoned campaigner, don’t be surprised if the bar-girl jungle drumsalert her to your presence all the way to the capital. It has been known to happen. Needless to say, they're all connected on social media sites, just like we are: there'll be 'Farang Addicts' sites for bargirls galore... I'm sure my fucking photo's on a few (probably with 'Beware Of This Cheating Dickhead' as the Topic Title).
