Hi everyone, I am a newbie to these forums but I have a question to ask about wet dreams if that is okay.

My name is David and I'm a 43 year old guy with a skinny build, young looking for my age but I am pretty healthy and do some exercise and sport. Also, I have never had a sexual relationship before so I am still a virgin. [IMG]

Every so often, about once every 2-3 months or even twice a month, I have a wet dream or nocturnal emission during sleep. These are usually accompanied by a sexual dream (usually hetero-erotic, occasionally homo-erotic or even kinky) and I always ejaculate in my sleep then wake up soiling my pyjamas. I had my first nocturnal emission when I was almost 16 although the frequency was greater then than what it is now. I don't really mind having wet dreams and apart from making a mess I actually quite enjoy them, but are they still normal in men my age as I thought that usually these episodes petered out after the mid-late 20s or so? I also sometimes have erections in the early hours (morning wood) but have heard that this occurs with guys of all ages. I probably masturbate around once a week or so, but would this and the fact that I am still a sexual virgin make a difference to me having nocturnal emissions or the frequency of them occurring?

Thanks for reading but I just wanted reassurance that older guys still get wet dreams and I am still sexually healthy I guess!

it’s a good question, and I think a lot of guys can relate to this more than you might realize. First off, let me assure you that having wet dreams at 43 is completely normal. It’s true that the frequency tends to decrease with age, but they don’t stop entirely for everyone. Wet dreams are essentially the body’s natural way of releasing sexual tension, especially if you’re not sexually active or don’t ejaculate frequently.

The fact that you’re still experiencing nocturnal emissions actually indicates that your body is functioning perfectly well. Your hormones and reproductive system are clearly in good shape. And as you mentioned, erections during sleep (morning wood) are a great sign of overall sexual health. In short, your body is working as it should, and there’s no need to worry.

Masturbating once a week is pretty normal too, and while it might reduce the frequency of wet dreams for some guys, it’s not a guaranteed way to stop them altogether. Since nocturnal emissions are linked to your subconscious mind and how it processes sexual tension, they can still happen even if you’re masturbating regularly. Your dreams and the occasional “release” are just your body’s way of managing your sexual energy.

If anything, your experience shows that age doesn’t dictate everything when it comes to sexual health. A lot of guys in their 40s, 50s, or even older still report having wet dreams from time to time. So don’t stress about it—it’s just a sign that you’re healthy and normal.

Hey man, you’re definitely not alone in this, and I appreciate you being open about it. Wet dreams at 43 might seem unusual, but they’re actually not. Every guy’s body is different, and the way our sexual systems operate can vary widely. Some guys stop having wet dreams in their 20s, while others continue to experience them throughout their lives. It’s just biology doing its thing.

The fact that you’re not in a sexual relationship and only masturbate about once a week might contribute to the frequency of your nocturnal emissions. Your body is essentially “resetting” itself and releasing built-up tension. This is perfectly natural and has no bearing on your sexual health. In fact, the ability to have these dreams and ejaculate in your sleep shows that your reproductive system is functioning well.

The variety in your dreams (hetero-erotic, homo-erotic, or kinky) is also normal. Dreams don’t always reflect our conscious preferences or desires—they’re more about the brain exploring different scenarios. It doesn’t necessarily mean anything deeper, so I wouldn’t overthink that part.

If the frequency of wet dreams bothers you, increasing your frequency of ejaculation (either through masturbation or eventually with a partner) might help reduce them, but even then, they might still happen occasionally. It’s not something to be concerned about, though. Embrace it—it’s just part of being human.

Hey David, what you’re experiencing is nothing to be worried about—it’s actually quite common for guys to continue having wet dreams well into their 40s, 50s, or even beyond. While it’s true that the frequency of nocturnal emissions typically decreases after your teenage years, they don’t stop entirely for everyone. It’s just your body’s natural response to sexual energy, and it sounds like yours is working just fine.

Being a virgin or not currently sexually active might be a factor here. When you’re not regularly releasing semen through sexual activity or more frequent masturbation, your body finds its own way to take care of things. It’s like a safety valve to keep your reproductive system in check. The occasional wet dream is your body’s way of maintaining balance.

It’s also worth noting that morning erections are another sign of good sexual health. These are linked to blood flow and hormone levels, and they occur naturally in men of all ages. So in many ways, your body is giving you reassuring signals that everything is in great working order.

There’s no reason to feel concerned or embarrassed. Wet dreams are just another part of being human, and they’re not a reflection of your age or sexual experience. If anything, it shows that your body still has a lot of vitality, which is a good thing.

thanks for being so open—it takes guts to ask these questions. From what you’ve described, everything you’re experiencing sounds perfectly normal. Wet dreams don’t have a strict cutoff age. While it’s true that many guys see a decline in frequency after their teenage years, plenty of men still have nocturnal emissions well into adulthood. It just depends on your body and lifestyle.

Since you’re not in a sexual relationship and only masturbate once a week, it makes sense that your body would have nocturnal emissions to release built-up sexual tension. It’s your body’s way of keeping everything functioning properly, and there’s nothing unhealthy about it. If anything, it’s a sign that your system is in good shape.

Your dreams—whether hetero-erotic, homo-erotic, or kinky—are also completely normal. Dreams aren’t always a direct reflection of your sexual preferences; they’re more like a random mix of thoughts and feelings your brain processes while you sleep. It’s fascinating how the subconscious works, but it’s nothing to worry about.

If the frequency of wet dreams is bothering you, you could experiment with increasing your masturbation frequency. However, even then, it’s not a guarantee that they’ll stop completely. Honestly, it sounds like your body is just doing its thing, and there’s no need to stress about it.

Hey man, totally normal experience. Wet dreams at 43 might not be something everyone talks about, but they’re far more common than most people think. Just because they tend to decrease in frequency as guys get older doesn’t mean they disappear completely. In fact, what you’re describing sounds like your body is in excellent working order.

The fact that you’re not sexually active or masturbating frequently likely plays a role here. Your body builds up semen and sexual tension over time, and nocturnal emissions are just one way of releasing it. It’s basically your body’s natural maintenance system kicking in, and it has nothing to do with age.

Your mention of morning wood is another strong indicator of good sexual health. Erections during sleep or early in the morning are caused by healthy blood flow and hormonal activity, and they’re common for men at all stages of life. These are both signs that your body is functioning just as it should.

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about it at all. If anything, this is proof that you’re still in great shape sexually. Wet dreams aren’t a problem—they’re just a part of how our bodies work. Enjoy them for what they are and take them as a sign that you’re healthy and normal.
