On Sunday evening, I went to Queens LK Metro with a friend. We opened a bottle of Bombay and celebrated with two beautiful girls. So far, so good.

We returned on Monday evening, and the same two girls quickly joined us again. Lady drinks were flowing alongside our gin and tonics. However, I noticed something off with my drink. I made myself a gin and tonic, but it still didn't taste right. That's when I became suspicious.

I smelled the bottle, and it had a strange scent. I took a sip straight from the bottle, and it tasted much too soft and watery, lacking the normal biting sharpness of Bombay gin.

I paid the bill and went to a nearby bar to compare their Bombay. Six people present, including the bartender, each said the gin at Queens LK Metro was diluted by 30-50%.

I went back to the bar and confronted them, as this is apparently an old scam. The excuse was ready: "Alcohol evaporates, so now it tastes not strong. What do you want? You drunk, go away."

Beware of scams like this. Cheers.

You will find situations like this all over the place, whether you like it or not. Even in many bars, when you order your mixed drink, the bottle on the shelf may have been "refilled". In other words, diluted. Many managers also have their own bottles, so that if you order them hard stuff, the bartenders know immediately which bottle to grab so that the manager can still do his job tomorrow. The same goes for the ladies... I remember someone (don't want to mention the name) who said he could drink 10 tequila in under 10 seconds. He filled all the shots into one glass and drank the glass without batting an eyelid. I smelled it. Smelled of tequila. Yeah... you can also "soak" glasses in tequila and pour water into them, or take 2 shots of tequila and 8 shots of water, etc.

When ordering the bottle, ask for the bottle to be brought closed so that you can open it yourself. Then you should be on the safe side, although I'm not 100% sure about that myself.

That's what the employees do. They tamper with it. The bar owners often don't know about it. That's how it is. Complaining to the boss might help. But of course he wants to keep his employees happy. The easiest thing to do is to just stay away. Unfortunately, there is a lot of cheating in the food industry and the catering trade.

At the end of Soi Diamond there was (or still is, I don't know exactly) the bar "the crab". It must have been 10 years ago, and the bottles were sometimes given out "diluted". I got into a lot of trouble and never went back.

Unfortunately, that happens quite often, and not just in Patty.

The problem is international. It happened to me over 20 years ago in my own bar: we did a detailed inventory every day after work, and every bottle of opened spirits was weighed and recorded to the nearest 5 grams. The morning shift also had to do the same inventory to check before work began, as the cleaning staff were in the shop at night. The result was: a cleaning lady was also a "happy drinker" and enjoyed the expensive Remy Martin, but when she noticed that we were doing this detailed inventory, she poured the amount she had drunk back into the bottle as tap water, but this was immediately noticed in the morning because the bottle was several grams heavier in the morning than it was in the evening. She had miscounted badly while drunk, Wink
