Airhorns Banned in Pattaya: What You Need to Know - aiden15632 - 07-20-2024

Hello everyone, I hope this fits in here. I wasn't quite sure.

It was already going around unofficially yesterday, but now it's made it into the newspaper. As of March 15, so-called airhorns in bars are history. What is referred to here as horn pull, ringing or something else.

The official story is that the residents complained about the disturbance. The unofficial story is that a bar complained because there was too much pulling across the street and not at theirs. I don't have any reliable sources for either as of now.

Here is the official letter: And here is the article (in English):

As I read it, it's about airhorns in particular and not about "ring the bell"....airhorn gone - bell there...problem solved.

Why should that be another nail in the coffin?

Some bars have fog and confetti machines connected to it. It's sold as an event and used as such.

I know bars where on a peak day they made 100k+ just from the horn.

Are airhorns used more often than bells because of the noise they make? I can't imagine that, but that applies to many things and maybe my impression is wrong. Otherwise, it's probably just a replacement for the woolly howls and it has no further impact on the bar business.

The debate about the airhorns was triggered by bars in Soi Yamato. Local residents complained massively to the police about the volume of the airhorns. It was also in the news two months ago. Unfortunately, I can't find the link anymore.
